Believe in yourself as a parent..
July 26, 2024Hey there amazing animal lovers! πΎ
As the sun kisses our skin and we welcome the brighter days, it’s essential to remember that our beloved pets also need to stay safe during these warm months. Today, let’s shine a spotlight on a lesser-known yet crucial topic: near drowning in animals.
Did you know? π€
Every year, countless pets, especially dogs, experience near-drowning incidents. Whether it’s an enthusiastic jump into the pool, slipping beside a pond, or just trying to cool off in a water body, our furry friends can quickly find themselves in over their heads (quite literally).
Why is this important? πΆπ¦
- Lungs & Water: Animals, like humans, can’t breathe underwater. When they accidentally inhale water, it can lead to complications, such as aspiration pneumonia.
- Chill Factor: Even on a hot day, water bodies can be chilly. This can lead to a drop in body temperature and hypothermia.
- Exhaustion: Swimming can be tiring. If your pet gets too far out, they might not have the energy to swim back.
How can you help? π
- Supervision is key! Just as you wouldn’t leave a toddler unsupervised near water, the same applies to pets.
Water Rescue-Ramps for pets: Ensure your pets can safely exit the water with our Water Rescue Ramps. Lightweight, easy-to-install, and a lifesaverβliterallyβfor your beloved animals. - Life jackets for pets: Believe it or not, they exist! And they’re a fantastic tool to keep our pets safe, especially if you’re near large bodies of water.
- Teach them to swim: Not all pets are natural swimmers. Consider introducing them to water gradually and ensuring they’re comfortable.
- Check your surroundings: Ensure your backyard pool or pond has a fence or barrier, and there are no open containers with water that small animals might tumble into.
- Learn pet CPR: Being prepared can make all the difference.
Spot the signs of near drowning:
- Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing
- Coughing or choking
- Blue or pale gums
- Lethargy or disorientation
- Cold body temperature
If your pet displays any of these signs, contact your vet immediately.
